Janice O'Sullivan, Master of Education, Academic Services

 

Janice O’Sullivan joined Therapeutic Designs & Services, Inc. in 2011, she has 25 years of teaching and working with children and families. She earned her Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Learning and Behavioral Disorders from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. Janice taught at The Board of Cooperative Educational Service's Head State Program for nine years working with underprivileged children within the county. For three years, Janice served as the County Coordinator and Counselor for the Salvation Army's Domestic Violent Children & Family Outreach Program in western New York state. In 1997, Janice relocated to Hartsville with her husband and two sons. Following a year as a volunteer at the Hartsville Interfaith Ministries, she began teaching third grade at Thomas Hart Academy, SCISA institution for 13 years. In addition to  her teaching responsibilities, she held the position of Assistant Headmaster during her last nine years at the academy. Outside her professional career, Janice is a nationally certified Aerobics Instructor and teaches Aerobics at the YMCA in Hartsville. She was the recipient of the 2010 Volunteer of the Year Award by the YMCA in the Upper Pee Dee for her 14 years of volunteer service to the community of Hartsville. She is also a Christian's Development Instructor at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

 

Janice has trained in the following programs to provide direct one-on-one instruction for the development of essential skills. 

 

  • Orton-Gillingham’s multisensory approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling.

  • Lindamood-Bell’s programs for developing phonemic awareness, language comprehension, critical thinking, and math reasoning & computations.

  • Sensory Integration techniques to improve attention, visual & auditory pro-cessing, motor skills, and social/emotional development.

  • Self-Regulation strategies for increased learning, staying on task, and problem solving.
